Welcome to the New River Valley Chapter of SHRM, Inc.

The New River Valley Chapter of SHRM was founded in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1971. Originally, most members were employed by local industries. Today our membership reflects the diverse economic interests characteristic of our region. We serve the New River Valley, a scenic area encompassing Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Dublin, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, and Radford. We have over 100 members representing an array of business, government and university professionals. In addition, we support two student SHRM chapters at Radford University and Virginia Tech.

COVID-19

SHRM and HR Virginia understand the difficulty COVID-19 has placed on recertification especially after canceling the VA State Conference and the National SHRM Conference. Because of this they have extended and implemented additional avenues for recertification which we have listed below:

  • SHRM is hosting many COVID-19 related webcasts that are approved for PDCs, as well as webcasts on other topics (see attached, “SHRM Recertification Credit Guide – May 2020” for information about our webcast offerings).
  • Individuals can submit their COVID-19 related work-based projects for PDCs (see attached, “Navigating COVID-19 and Earning PDCs for Your Work”).
  • The SHRM Foundation “Veterans at Work Certificate Program” is approved for 10 PDCs and is free. The following link will take you to information about the program: https://www.shrm.org/foundation/about/pages/veterans-at-work-certificate-program.aspx.
  • Because we had to make the decision this week to cancel SHRM 2020 Annual Conference & Exposition (see attached, “SHRM 2020 Annual Conference & Exposition: Update”), we will be hosting virtual content approved for PDCs through the remainder of the year, free for SHRM members. This will help SHRM20 registrants get the PDCs they were planning to receive by attending the Conference.
  • Chapters and State Councils are also a great resource for virtual programming.

SHRM is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and would like to ensure that you are kept informed about how to manage this communicable disease in your workplace.
