Welcome to the New River Valley Chapter of SHRM, Inc.












The New River Valley Chapter of SHRM was founded in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1971. Originally, most members were employed by local industries. Today our membership reflects the diverse economic interests characteristic of our region. We serve the New River Valley, a scenic area encompassing Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Dublin, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, and Radford. We have over 100 members representing an array of business, government and university professionals. In addition, we support two student SHRM chapters at Radford University and Virginia Tech. 

Registration is now open for #HRVA2022! Group and student rates are available and early bird rates close on December 31st. Lodging can be booked at time of registration but act fast as rooms are limited!

SHRM CP/SCP Certification Preparation Courses

Spring Class begins online February 17th 2022

NRCC‘s FastForward Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification Preparation Course will broaden and update the students' knowledge and skills while delivering everything needed to pass the SHRM-CP exam, all in an interactive “live” virtual class environment.

  • Learn from a certified instructor who provides expertise, insights and one-on-one guidance.
  • Acquire the knowledge and understand the behavioral competencies needed to prepare to pass the exam.
  • Network, share experiences, and discuss best practices with a diverse group of HR professionals.
  • Stay on track to earn the certification with a structured learning experience.
  • Take advantage of funding options, such as the FastForward grant for Virginia residents.

With NRCC’s course, the student will receive the 2021 SHRM Learning System and an exam voucher which offers personalized learning that dynamically adjusts to learning style. Students must meet specific educational and work experience to submit their application to take the SHRM-CP exam.



SHRM and its members have an opportunity—and an obligation—to use our unique professional expertise in solving a significant equity crisis in America. Together Forward @ Work is a call to action for the HR profession and broader business community to drive racial inequity out of America’s workplaces.

SHRM and HR Virginia understand the difficulty COVID-19 has placed on recertification especially after canceling the VA State Conference and the National SHRM Conference. Because of this they have extended and implemented additional avenues for recertification which we have listed below:

  • SHRM is hosting many COVID-19 related webcasts that are approved for PDCs, as well as webcasts on other topics
  • Individuals can submit their COVID-19 related work-based projects for PDCs
  • The SHRM Foundation “Veterans at Work Certificate Program” is approved for 10 PDCs and is free. The following link will take you to information about the program:
