When should a reasonable accommodation be considered? Is this condition really a disability? What are the employer’s and employee’s responsibilities under the ADA? We’ll answer these questions and more in this session. We’ll also discuss how to recognize a request, manage ongoing requests, reasonable accommodation, undue hardship, discipline and other complex issues.</div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Learning Objectives: </strong></div> <div> </div> <ul> <li>Understand and be able to apply the basic tenets of title I of the ADAAA</li> <li>Be able to identify requests for reasonable accommodation under the ADAAA</li> <li>Understand the interactive process and be able ot utilize this process at all stages of the accommodation process</li> <li>Provide an effiicient and effective framework for the interactive process that attendees will be able to utilize at their institution</li> </ul> <hr /> <p><strong>About the speaker:</strong></p> <p><span style="margin: 0px; line-height: 115%; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"><font color="#000000"><img alt="" src="/sites/nrv.shrm.org/files/Pamela%20Vickers.jpg" style="width: 200px; height: 200px; float: left;" />Pamela G. Vickers is the Director for ADA/504 Compliance in the Office of Equity and Accessibility at Virginia Tech. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Science in Psychology, and an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Ms. Vickers served as Disability Services Coordinator at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. Ms. Vickers has 26 years experience working in various capacities with individuals with disabilities including children, teens, college students, and adults with severe mental health disabilities. Ms. Vickers earned the Professional Associate certification through the National Association for ADA Coordinators in 2016. This training required 66 hours of face-to-face instruction with federal agencies pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Ms. Vickers is a member of the Association for Higher Education and Disabilities and the National Association of ADA Coordinators. </font></span></p> <p> </p>
