This training will address how mental health issues and conditions can impact the workplace.&nbsp; Practictioners will learn how to create a supportive environment for individuals who are experiencing mental illness or crisis episodes.&nbsp; We will look at how to have discussions with employees about concerns pertaining to mental wellness with respect to worker performance.&nbsp; Finally, practictioners will be made aware of resources that are available for employees who need treatment for mental health issues.

Speaker: Heather Custer, LPC, obtained her Bachelor of General Studies from Radford University.&nbsp; She earned her Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology from Radford University in 2005.&nbsp; She has worked as a mental health clinician at New River Valley Community Services for over 13 years.&nbsp; Initially she served as an Emergency Services Assessment Clinician in the Access Program.&nbsp; She then worked in an outpatient program for individuals with serious mental illness who were involved in the criminal justice system for over ten years, serving as the program&rsquo;s supervisor for eight of those years.&nbsp; She transitioned to supervising New Life Recovery Center, NRVCS&rsquo; residential substance use disorder treatment facility, in July 2017.
